Preparations for Safety Day under way

The preparations for the first EB Safety Day on 6 November, 2008, have begun. In an information cascade, all employees in leadership functions will be informed by their superiors on goals, implementation steps, and time schedule.

The Safety Day is aimed at reducing the number of on-the-job-accidents and lost working days within EB and thus enforcing the group’s occupational safety goal. “The basic idea behind the Safety Day is to strengthen every employee’s awareness for safety issues in their own particular work environment”, said Frank Forster, head of the Global EHS and Quality Management Unit (EB/S).

In order to achieve this, up to the actual Safety Day, all EB employees are to form teams in which they will draft and develop projects for increasing occupational safety. Executives play a key role in this. They are responsible for putting together the teams and providing them with conditions that foster efficient project work. “Executives really can do a lot here – by giving the issue of occupational safety the priority it deserves and by encouraging employees to also try less conventional approaches. We rely on creative ideas from all colleagues”, Frank Forster emphasized. This has been passed on to BASF’S EHS and communication experts in the regions, who will support the EB colleagues if required.

The Safety Day's goal is to strengthen every employee’s awareness for safety issues.

On 6 November – Safety Day –, events are planned throughout all EB sites. Main focus will be on the presentation of the projects dealing with the improvement of occupational safety. There will be comprehensive coverage of the Safety Day events in the EB media, so that everyone has the opportunity to learn about all new ideas on this important issue.
